Biography
Andra Heesch, a virtuoso violist, has established herself as an internationally renowned soloist and chamber musician in the world of classical music. Her presence in prestigious concert halls such as Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg testifies to her extraordinary artistic brilliance. As a sought-after performer, she regularly enriches prominent festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Enescu Festival, and the D'Accord Klassik Festival.
Heesch's interpretations are characterized by a symbiosis of exquisite tonal aesthetics and profound musical eloquence, captivating both audiences and critics alike. A reviewer for critic-arad aptly described her performance: "Andra is able to charge the musical phrase with intense and sincere pathos, expressive power, and tension in a perfect flow, with bow and breath changes merging almost imperceptibly." Another testament to her artistry states, "Her performance is marked by such refined elegance, feminine energy, and nuanced variety that even the most stoic listener is overwhelmed by a torrent of emotions."
Chamber music forms the nucleus of Heesch's artistic work. As an integral member of the Vitti Ensemble, a duo founded in 2022 with violinist Marketa Janoušková, she has already recorded for Czech Radio and embarked on international tours. Collaborations with musical luminaries such as Lauma Skride, Elisaveta Blumina, Simone Drescher, and Lion Hinnrichs regularly expand the ensemble's repertoire. Since 2023, Heesch has been a permanent member of the "Leipzig String Trio," which has achieved great success at the Martha Argerich Festival and other prestigious chamber music series. Additionally, she was a founding member of the Nichiteanu Trio in 2017, which was reformed in spring 2022 with Ionel Adrian Iliescu (violin) and Samuel Selle (cello). Both ensembles are distinguished by a synthesis of exceptional virtuosity and profound musical cohesion, enabling them to interpret the demanding chamber music repertoire at the highest level.
Heesch's dedication to passing on her profound knowledge is manifested in her teaching at numerous international master classes. She completed her own musical training summa cum laude at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, supplemented by master classes with renowned pedagogues such as Prof. Tabea Zimmermann, Prof. Nobuko Imai, and Prof. Thomas Riebl. In her youth, she distinguished herself in various competitions. Andra Heesch plays a viola by Girolamo Brensio from 1536, an heirloom from her father, Prof. Marius Nichiteanu, which she inherited in 2014. This historical instrument lends her interpretations an additional dimension of tonal depth and historical authenticity.

Vitti Ensemble
Together with violinist Markéta Janoušková.
Musically, the ensemble draws from a wide repertoire for violin and viola. In addition to the great classical composers, selected pieces by modern composers form a second pillar of the repertoire, which are often composed directly for the ensemble. Both have already established themselves as freelance artists in the German and international cultural scene.
